Sprint Electric has expanded its footprint at the University of Nottingham after raising significant investment towards the development of Generis, the groundbreaking AC regeneration drive.
Sprint Electric has partnered with the University of Nottingham since 2018 on two separate Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs). The collaboration has researched the underlying technologies and developed Generis with the aim of delivering a cost effective and highly reliable AC motor control with energy regeneration and low input current harmonics.
Gary Keen, managing director, comments: “The relationship that we have with the University of Nottingham has been invaluable over the past five years. We are pleased with the expansion of our space to develop Generis; it gives the team a great foundation to work from and demonstrates the extent of our progress.”
The extra space will allow for further testing and validation work following key appointments across the business. The Arundel-based manufacturer recently announced the addition of several experienced and specialist team members, including engineers, a quality manager, supply chain experts and an accountant
Earlier this year, Sprint Electric was awarded £300,000 of funding from Innovate UK, a programme dedicated to supporting SMEs working with new and groundbreaking technologies. In total, Sprint has raised £4.7m of investment in the last twelve months, enabling the business to expand its operations, drive growth and recruit extra staff to bring innovative and reliable AC and DC drives to the global market.
