Sprint Electric strengthens new AC drive technology by working with KTPs

Dr Mark Gardiner, director of Sprint Electric, explains the value of the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) undertaken with the University of Nottingham and the University of Sussex. Mark joined Sprint Electric in 2013 and has 30 years of experience in the drives industry.

The KTPs are part grant-funded schemes that helps businesses to innovate using the expertise from the universities. A KTP brings together a business or charity with a research organisation and a qualified graduate, known as a KTP Associate, with the capability to lead a strategic, technical or business project.

Sprint expands facilities at Nottingham University following recent investment

Sprint Electric has expanded its footprint at the University of Nottingham after raising significant investment towards the development of Generis, the groundbreaking AC regeneration drive.

Sprint Electric has partnered with the University of Nottingham since 2018 on two separate Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs). The collaboration has researched the underlying technologies and developed Generis with the aim of delivering a cost effective and highly reliable AC motor control with energy regeneration and low input current harmonics.

£4.7million investment programme accelerates growth at Sprint

Sprint Electric continues to accelerate its expansion programme with a further £1.9 million investment from Foresight Group. The private equity group, who invested £2million in Sprint in 2023, is also sharing industry connections and strategic advice with Sprint as part of a partnership designed to deliver rapid global growth. Sprint have now raised a total of £4.7 million investment in the last 12 months alone. In 2023, Sprint received £2 million of private equity investment from the Foresight Group and £500,000 from the Midlands Engine Investment Fund. In March this year, they won £300,000 funding from Innovate UK.

Harry joins with an impressive track record in supply chain management.  A qualified electrical engineer, Harry started out in project engineering for a satellite antennae manufacturer.
