RETROFITTING A DISCONTINUED DC DRIVE

It can be increasingly difficult to find a manufacturer who holds stock when you are looking to retrofit existing DC motor applications with a discontinued part. This has been exacerbated recently by a major drives manufacturer stopping production of DC motor controllers above a certain rating (500HP / 350kw about 850 amps).

SO HOW DO YOU SOURCE A SUITABLE ALTERNATIVE?

Size consideration is vital, especially when retrofitting, as you’re often constrained by the size of the space left by the DC drive you’re replacing or upgrading.

All of our drives are designed and manufactured to be more compact than most of the installed base of DC drives you’ll find. See how easily you can retrofit Sprint Electric DC Motor Controllers with our retrofitting size chart here.

You might be concerned with essential functionality? Whether it’s the number of I/O options, the pre-configured software options, or the space saving frame sizes, you want to be sure you’re choosing the right digital DC drive.

We have made a simple comparison guide to help you compare the Sprint Electric PL/X range against the digital DC drives from four other manufacturers. Here you can explore the differences in:

  • Standard Software Functions
  • Inputs/Outputs
  • Protection
  • Field Control

RECENT EXAMPLE OF DC DRIVE REPLACEMENT

Transdrive one of our UK distributors, recently helped a Polymer processing plant needing a quick solution to replace an old Parker SSD 590 DC Drive with a Sprint Electric PL700. We are confident that a solutions like this can always be found for, as well as our ‘standard’ range of digital drives (up to 630 amps 2Q and 4Q), we also have our large frame size 4 and 5 drives in 2Q and 4Q options (from 650 to 2250 amps at 500, 600 and 690VAC supplies). All of our drives are available from stock for a fast turnaround.

Our customers tell us that our DC drives often offer a better solution with practical options. For example, to suit the customer’s specific installation requirements, the user-friendly AC bus bar entry position on the size 4 & 5 drives is selectable to be at the top or bottom of the drive.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us for help on how you can find direct replacements available from stock now.
